Dug In Farm Interns ~

Despite being less than tickled about our lousy May weather, I am thrilled about the new additions to the farm ~ Dug In Farms is about to have two new farm interns! Yep, it’s true, many hands make light work, or perhaps, many hands make heavy work a whole lot more fun! With the market in full swing and planting season under way, their arrival can’t come fast enough.

I hope you get a chance to meet both of them but in the meantime, please let me introduce you. Scott and Katt are both finishing up their studies and will bring tremendous energy and enthusiasm to the farm.

Although they’ll live at Dug In, each will split their work weeks with other local farms. I’m eternally grateful to Jenny Maloney of Wind Haven Farm (check her out on Facebook) and Cathy Calhoun of Ditchley Cider Works (ditchleyciderworks.com) for sharing their farms and experiences with Scott and Katt. There’s no doubt in my mind that they’ll have a fantastic summer and come to love the Northern Neck region and its people!

Now it’s on to the fun part like making room for two more people in my tiny kitchen, clearing out a bathroom, trying to get myself and Doug, the dog, ready for roommates. It’ll be nice having “young people” in the house (golly, when did I hit middle age?) and strong backs to help with the heavy lifting.

If you meet Katt or Scott at the stand please let them know all the good things going on around the Neck. We need more young people who recognize the opportunities our area has to offer. And we need more young people who are dedicated to farming!
