Is My Collar Dirty??

I took a shower this morning.

Okay, for a lot of people this is hardly worthy of a blog post. But the morning shower got me thinking of a conversation I had earlier this summer with my good friend Henry.

Henry and I were chatting on the porch about what it means to make a living with your hands when he shared his preacher’s take on people. The only difference between white collar and blue collar folk, his preacher would say, is when they take their shower.

Exactly. Clearly I was born a blue collar folk. Except I wasn’t. I was born to be a blue collar folk. At least when it comes to showering.

The night time shower is one of the most peculiar ways I know that I’ve finally found my calling.

As a kid I remember waking up to a world that was about to explode with possibilities only to put the brakes on and clean up. It was the same in my ‘professional’ career. An alarm set hours before real work could start. There was the shower, the hair and make-up, clothes to be coordinated, coffee to drink, news shows to watch.

These days I’m up at 6:30, out by 7. Twenty minutes in I’m sweaty and covered in dirt or manure. I’m usually filthy when I swing by Tri-Star or Southern States. I often smell a little rank and will warn a friend whose quick to hug.

But the shower, ahhh, the shower is the soothing reward for a day well lived. A day of hard work with the sweat and grime to show for it. A day that starts with a Boom and ends with all things cleaned up.

Wishing you a refreshing shower, regardless of morning or night! And, as always, thanks for stopping by.
