Get Your Mojo On

Last February I visited a dear friend in Dallas. It wasn’t five minutes before we were talking business.
Liz and I both owned businesses before, but we were starting over, mid-life in a whole new sector. It was trial by fire.
“I’m drowning,” I confided. “There’s barely enough time to think. How do you stay motivated to do the really important stuff?”
A big grin spread across her face. “Let me show you something.”
We walked up the staircase to her home office. It was ruthlessly organized. This woman means business, I thought.
“That’s what does it,” she pointed to a piece of paper thumbtacked above her computer screen. The short document was titled Mojo Checklist.
I leaned in and read. The words were part pep talk, part tough love. It was Liz’s daily ritual of telling her fears to take a seat and shut up, there was work to be done. I was blown away by its honesty and resonance.
A few days later, on the plane home, I wrote my own Mojo Checklist. It was shockingly simply to write, as if the words had been waiting for their cue.
With the winter creeping in and the days getting darker my fear of falling behind, of failing, gets louder. So, I pulled out the checklist and placed it on my keyboard. A daily reminder of my own truth and of my dear friend in Dallas.
Here it is, for what it is worth. And, as always thank you for stopping by, Carolyn
Mojo Checklist
Look at what you’ve created, from nothing. Keep creating. Keep pushing. Nothing can stop you but yourself.
You may not know how to do it now but that will change. Envision the change. Know deeply, you can do anything. Want it, quit fighting it and learn.
Ponder at peace. When you start to beat yourself up you’re fucked. Get a group of mentors. Call on them. Regularly. Work it out and move. Always move.
Patience is your friend, with yourself, Doug, equipment, weather, others. Practice it in all things.
You can do in 20 minutes what you think about for an hour. Do it. Just stand up and do it. Now.
