Last Call

Tonight, sitting at my computer, I’m filled with ambivalence. The past few days I’ve been circling the keyboard, avoiding the blog. Knowing that it would be difficult to say all that I feel and want to share, I chose instead to procrastinate until now, the last minute.

With the final weekend of the farm stand before me I can’t help but dream of lazy mornings, drinks with friends and afternoon naps, all the luxuries that I long for and once took for granted. I won’t miss hauling crates of corn, bagging greens and a house overrun with produce.

But there is no denying that I will miss what the stand provides me. A weekly routine, the time spent laughing with good friends, and purpose. And, for the sake of honesty, a huge boost in self-worth. There are days when the only thing that gets me through are the kind words and support of those who visit the farm stand.

If I were a more eloquent writer the words and stories that I want to share would come easily. Instead I’m left with the inadequate, but heartfelt, Thank You.

For each of you who have made the effort to stop and shop. Thank You. For those who have told your friends, carried cash for the honor box and made change for new customers. Thank You. For all of you who have shared recipes and cooking tips, growing and gardening advice. Thank You. For getting out of your car with a smile on your face. Thank You.

Like any good parent I’d never claim to have favorites but some of you are truly remarkable. You send me clever emails. You bring me food (God bless You). You take the time to hug me, even when I’m sweaty and stinky. You tell me to keep on going. Thank You.

The past two days I was reminded that spring is just around the corner. With the help of Natalie, we planted 800 daffodils this week and will plant 800 tulips after Thanksgiving. While I’m busy planning for the reopening in March I am filled with gratitude for what you’ve given me today. Thank You.

And, as always THANK YOU for stopping by. Carolyn
