Thank you for taking the time to read a little more about volunteering at Dug In Farms!
First of all, anyone can volunteer. The only requirement is a positive attitude. The farm is a happy place and our intention is that everyone who visits feels the care and love we have for what we do.
There are opportunities for everyone, whether you’re a dirt lover or prefer to work inside helping customers, arranging flowers, or simply talking to folks about what’s going on at the farm ~ we’ve got a spot for you.
Volunteers usually help out for a two hour session. There are no fast and hard rules about when you come, we appreciate any help we can get. The farm is open 8 – 6, 6 days a week (Farm Market 4 days a week, 8-6) so we can fit your schedule.
Volunteers are “paid” in Dug In Dollars that can be used for any items in the Farm Market ~ YUM!
After 6 sessions, volunteers receive a Dug In Farms shirt.
So why do it? Of course, each person will answer that for themselves, but here are a few of my thoughts.
The farm was started with the intention of building a community of people who love good food, who appreciate and remember their own childhood gardens, and who want to reconnect with the simpler life. This is what you’ll find when you join us.
As a single woman the farm has been an undertaking of a lifetime. There will never be a day when I don’t need the help of friends, family and neighbors to survive and thrive. If you want to help grow something that is important to the community, that is life-giving and job-creating then please join us.
Here’s what a couple of more reasons directly from volunteers ~
“I’ve always wanted my own little farm and to grow my own food, but have never been able to do it with my work and /or my location. Now I have an opportunity to work on a farm to whatever level I want and to experience the technical and aesthetic aspects of a small farm without the headaches and worries. And the idea of getting paid with the bounty of harvest is irresistible.”
“I love helping people out! I meet the nicest customers who come in to buy the delicious vegetables and beautiful flowers that Carolyn raises. The farm always puts a big smile on my face because we’re surrounded by the happiest people.”
If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to send me an email or call/text. I’m happy to talk with you or to put you in touch with some of our volunteers so you can get the straight scoop from them.
Happy Gardening and I hope to see you at the stand!
Carolyn
